This is where Lazarus, whom Jesus had raised from the dead, and his two sisters, Mary and Martha, resided. On the evening of Palm Sunday, Jesus and his disciples went to Bethany, a town roughly two miles east of Jerusalem. The crowds there greeted him by waving palm branches and yelling, "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!" "Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey." Then Jesus sat on the young donkey and gently, meekly, made his celebrated entry into Jerusalem, accomplishing the biblical prophecy in Zechariah 9:9: The disciples were instructed to untie the animals and bring them to him. Close to the village of Bethphage, he sent two of his disciples forward, telling them to find a donkey and its untamed colt. On the Sunday before his crucifixion, Jesus started his journey to Jerusalem, understanding that he would be killed there for the sins of mankind. What Happened during Holy Week? Palm Sunday
